Data base

National and regional dataset

A national data base for the main pests of wheat has been established. It will subsequently be used in the evaluation of the model.
It should gather together the results crossing and covering data on agronomic practices and pests.

The data collected have to provide:
- the input values of the model (or explanatory variables) break down according to 3 components: weather and soil, cropping practices and field environment.
- the output values of the model (or variables explained) in term of final severity for each pest retained.

In a first time, the work has been to identify, collect and classify the existing data at the national level and then to select them according to the specifications established for the model (Cholez, 2011). A work of understanding and of homogenization of data has been necessary in order to be able to use them as values for the model. Subsequently, the quantitative variables had to be translated into qualitative variables to be integrated in the models.
This database has been established from experimental results (research or experimental centres) , technical institutes, associations and groups of farmers, enterprises (cooperatives or private), from formalized or informal networks .
This national database, created from results not designed in the framework of the IPSIM approach, therefore often incomplete or inadequate for some variables, has been supplemented by our own acquisition device of regional data.
The objective was to scan a maximum of situation production i.e. to explore a wide range of practices crossed with a wide range of environment. To complement our dataset destined for the validation of the model, we have therefore chosen to set up, a regional network for the observation of farmers'fields in Midi-Pyrénées (and Languedoc-Roussillon), in order to fulfil surveys on cropping practices and diagnosis on the pests. These diagnosis are in general set up in synergy with existing local networks.
